Giving is Healthy! | Vishwa Jagriti Mission

Giving is Healthy

Your instant urge of giving something to someone may seem ‘insignificant,’ yet its impact is way more beneficial and healthy than you think. When you give a life-saving mask, for example, to someone who cannot afford it, this simple activity could be the make or break for someone who lives and sleeps on the road. There could be incredible outcomes when you donate oxygen concentrator to a chosen hospital, or donate money to a social service organization or even when you donate your time by volunteering for noble pursuits.

Such small charitable acts foster a HEALTHIER you and that should be enough of a reason to GIVE!

In fact, nowadays there is a trend to be healthy through being virtuous and generous. People are donating to aid organizations and charities in order to gain a good health. The health benefits range from a surge in happiness hormones to improved self-worth to a significant cut in the risk of depression.

Let’s have a look at the healthy outcomes of ‘Giving’.

The Surge in Happiness Hormones

We take different efforts to cut the stress level. We get involved in creative activities, listen to music or take a nature walk. Such activities help in the release of happiness hormones and that reduce our stress.  Any act of giving also has a soothing effect on the mind which is the result of a surge in happiness hormones. When we donate, we feel satisfied leading to Dopamine release. It makes us happy and excited. When we build a bond with strangers who we meet while doing something for them, Oxytocin is released. These are happiness hormones making a human body feel rejuvenated brimming with good health and shine.

Now a lot of people are reducing stress by tackling the problems of strangers. Moreover, when you think of helping someone you focus your mind on something other than your own problems, for some time. This helps with renewed energy level leading to happiness. And therefore, those who volunteer are way happier than those who don’t.

Boost in Self-Esteem

One of the best health benefits of giving is ‘improved self-esteem. Everyone knows that donating is a selfless activity, as here we are focusing on helping others who are in need. It bestows a great sense of personal satisfaction. When you donate food to a social service organization or arrange life-saving machines to help COVID-19 patients, you’re offering much-needed resources for a noble cause.

Such offering of help to others often results in self-help with a boost in self-esteem. Everyone knows that cultivating self-esteem can be unexpectedly tough but offering help to someone is one of the smart ways to achieve that. And when our self-esteem is up, we not only feel better about ourselves, we are more powerful and healthy as well.

Makes you Optimistic

The wonderful cloud of great results you receive from giving also leads to a profound feeling of OPTIMISM. With great self-esteem comes a more optimistic mind. Giving has a positive impact on both the mind and the body.  When you do hard work, it stimulates the brain to release hormones causing happiness and joy, making you optimistic.

Likewise, when you give something to someone with the help of your hard-earned money, it makes you even happier and you develop an optimistic approach to life and work.

Improved Mental Health

Studies show that any act of giving is linked to positive mental effects that also include the end of depression. Giving is good for mental health as it doesn’t require much effort from you. With one simple act of giving, you’re bound to lessen those bouts of low self-esteem, insomnia, and high BP. Since here you are actively involved in something that is solving problems of strangers and reducing challenges in their lives. So, just because of your efforts, they have clothes, they are having good food, they are getting medicines, or they are getting life-saving medical machines.

Directly or indirectly you are behind many healthy and happy faces. Such a feeling automatically boosts your worth and you stay away from feeling depressed leading to improved mental health.

Therefore, try not to miss any opportunity of showing your kindness by helping someone in a way you want. This simple gesture has remarkable health benefits and there is no better wealth than health.

Every Girl Deserves a Good Education

Every girl deserves a good education

Education is undeniably one of the most important human rights,  Although every child deserves a good education, this is especially true for girl children. Because it impacts families and also society. But unfortunately, according to Jan 2020, Times of India report- (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/40-of-girls-aged-15-18-not-attending-school-report/articleshow/73598999.cms)

Ten years after the Right to Education (RTE) Act came into being, nearly 40% of adolescent girls in the age group of 15-18 years are not attending school while 30% of girls from the poorest families have never set foot in a classroom. Let’s do something to change this situation.

A Girl’s Education Can Change Everything

Education can empower a girl in a true sense. She can take important decisions of her life and gives importance to educating her own children. Perhaps that’s why, we say-, “if you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a family and a nation.” This statement is 100 percent true. If a girl is educated, she understands the significance of education and she is well intended to educate everyone in her family.

Therefore, we should do whatever it takes to ensure that every girl child has a chance to grow up educated and empowered. This will enable her to create a bright future for herself.  With the help of social service organizations, schools, and religious organizations, steps can be taken to educate girls who may not otherwise have the chance to study. Small support from everyone can change the course of girls’ lives, their children’s lives, and the future of their families.

A good education for girls ensures-

1. Employment for Women

If a girl completes her education and reaches the higher education level, it will naturally boost her job prospects and open up a range of opportunities.

2. Healthy Children

A 58-country study by UNESCO showed that universal primary education for girls would reduce child mortality by 15 percent.

Going to school means the girls have better awareness regarding the benefits of keeping good health. Moreover, the effect of girls’ education is better than the effect of any health intervention as it leads to healthier and better-educated children.

3. No Child Marriage

Child marriage not only restrains girls’ education but also puts girls at a higher risk of health-related complications. Education for girls could be a credible strategy to prevent child marriages.

4. Empowered Women

It is a well-known fact that educated girls and women are better able to make decisions and have choices. They’re able to make critical decisions about running their homes and choosing a career.

5. Aware Women

An educated girl is well aware of her duties and rights. If needs arise, such women raise their voice without any fear. They may educate other women also on gender equality, various laws and policies.

In fact, the significance of educating girl children is manifold and it cannot be explained in a few words.

Vishwa Jagriti Mission’s Contribution in Girl Child Education

Gyandeep School, Faridabad

Running under the aegis of Vishwa Jagriti Mission (VJM), Gyandeep School, Faridabad, is a humble effort to lay a path to education & vocational training for girl children. Here, students from slum areas are getting a quality education and also the opportunity to develop their skills. The school-

  •         Supports students from families below the poverty line, especially children from slum areas
  •         Empowers girl children through value education
  •         Gives free vocational training to students under various skill development programs.

Devdoot Bal Ashram

In Surat (Gujarat) and Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), VJM is successfully running ‘Devdoot Bal Ashram’ that ensures care and comfort for vulnerable children of the society. Here, they get free housing, food, and education. Children from this Ashram are excelling in the fields of education and sports.

Schools in Jharkhand’s violence-prone Region

Vishwa Jagriti Mission has established two schools in the Naxalite areas of Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Chhattisgarh namely Rukka and Khunti. Presently, the school in the Rukka area of Jharkhand has 600 students in it and the school in the Khunti district of Jharkhand has 200 students enrolled in it. The students are getting free education and food in these schools along with other support.

More such schools should be established in every part of the country. And society must back any institution that is working towards offering a good education to girl children.

Vedic Age & Gurukul System

The Gurukul System was more widespread during the Vedic age where students were taught diverse subjects. The education was largely based on Vedas, grammar, the study of nature, logic, reasoning, science and other skills that are necessary for an occupation. Gurukul was the home of the Guru and the centre of learning where disciples stayed till the end of their schooling. All pupils were considered equal at the Gurukul.  Adopt a caring of a senior Citizen

Gurus as well as Shishyas resided in the same dwelling. The relationship between Guru and Shishya was considered sacred. No fee was taken from the students. Though, the disciples had to offer a Gurudakshina. It was a symbol of deep respect paid to the Guru.Adopt a caring of a senior Citizen

The Key Objectives of the Gurukul System

The key objectives of the Gurukul system of education are-

  • Imparting Education with Moral Values
  • Social Awareness
  • Perseverance & Self-Control
  • Character Building
  • Personality Development
  • Spiritual Development
  • Preservation of Indian Culture

Gurukuls in the Present Time

The Gurukul system of education is still prevalent in India. They focus on imparting education to the needy students in a natural surroundings where they can live with other students while inculcating the values of humanity, discipline and brotherhood. They study language, Science, Mathematics through Swadhyay and group discussions. They also acquire knowledge in fields like sports, arts, crafts, dancing and singing.

At the Gurukul, the focus is on developing intelligence and ability of critical thinking in the learners. They take part in activities such as meditation, Pranayam and Mantra chanting. One such Gurukul is, Maharishi Vedvyas Gurukul Vidyapeeth which is a unique centre of teaching located at Anand Dham Ashram, Delhi. HH Sudhanshuji Maharaj laid the foundation of this Gurukul on 2nd October, 1999. Adopt a caring of a senior Citizen

Here, students pursue their studies as per the curriculum of the Sanskrit university of Varanasi. They study all formal subjects along with the Vedas, Purans, Ramayana, Gita, Meditation, Music, Computer, and also get involved in co-curricular activities.  The beautiful centre of learning is situated in a pollution-free, clean and natural environment. All necessary educational facilities are available here where students from the underprivileged and poor sections of Indian society are given free education. They get free facilities of residence, food, clothing and healthcare. Adopt a caring of a senior Citizen

The Way Forward

Modern Gurukuls should be based on applied knowledge to prepare the students in all areas of education. It could be done by creating a perfect environment of academics and extracurricular activities for students. The application of the Gurukul system works on a value-based system and so the focus should be on the individuality of the student. They must excel in their area of interest. It will build a good character in them so that they can become what they want by understanding the whole concept of a balanced life. Such an education system will cultivate well-adapted and resourceful human beings who can face any challenge in life with bravery. Adopt a caring of a senior Citizen
