Giving is Healthy

Your instant urge of giving something to someone may seem ‘insignificant,’ yet its impact is way more beneficial and healthy than you think. When you give a life-saving mask, for example, to someone who cannot afford it, this simple activity could be the make or break for someone who lives and sleeps on the road. There could be incredible outcomes when you donate oxygen concentrator to a chosen hospital, or donate money to a social service organization or even when you donate your time by volunteering for noble pursuits.

Such small charitable acts foster a HEALTHIER you and that should be enough of a reason to GIVE!

In fact, nowadays there is a trend to be healthy through being virtuous and generous. People are donating to aid organizations and charities in order to gain a good health. The health benefits range from a surge in happiness hormones to improved self-worth to a significant cut in the risk of depression.

Let’s have a look at the healthy outcomes of ‘Giving’.

The Surge in Happiness Hormones

We take different efforts to cut the stress level. We get involved in creative activities, listen to music or take a nature walk. Such activities help in the release of happiness hormones and that reduce our stress.  Any act of giving also has a soothing effect on the mind which is the result of a surge in happiness hormones. When we donate, we feel satisfied leading to Dopamine release. It makes us happy and excited. When we build a bond with strangers who we meet while doing something for them, Oxytocin is released. These are happiness hormones making a human body feel rejuvenated brimming with good health and shine.

Now a lot of people are reducing stress by tackling the problems of strangers. Moreover, when you think of helping someone you focus your mind on something other than your own problems, for some time. This helps with renewed energy level leading to happiness. And therefore, those who volunteer are way happier than those who don’t.

Boost in Self-Esteem

One of the best health benefits of giving is ‘improved self-esteem. Everyone knows that donating is a selfless activity, as here we are focusing on helping others who are in need. It bestows a great sense of personal satisfaction. When you donate food to a social service organization or arrange life-saving machines to help COVID-19 patients, you’re offering much-needed resources for a noble cause.

Such offering of help to others often results in self-help with a boost in self-esteem. Everyone knows that cultivating self-esteem can be unexpectedly tough but offering help to someone is one of the smart ways to achieve that. And when our self-esteem is up, we not only feel better about ourselves, we are more powerful and healthy as well.

Makes you Optimistic

The wonderful cloud of great results you receive from giving also leads to a profound feeling of OPTIMISM. With great self-esteem comes a more optimistic mind. Giving has a positive impact on both the mind and the body.  When you do hard work, it stimulates the brain to release hormones causing happiness and joy, making you optimistic.

Likewise, when you give something to someone with the help of your hard-earned money, it makes you even happier and you develop an optimistic approach to life and work.

Improved Mental Health

Studies show that any act of giving is linked to positive mental effects that also include the end of depression. Giving is good for mental health as it doesn’t require much effort from you. With one simple act of giving, you’re bound to lessen those bouts of low self-esteem, insomnia, and high BP. Since here you are actively involved in something that is solving problems of strangers and reducing challenges in their lives. So, just because of your efforts, they have clothes, they are having good food, they are getting medicines, or they are getting life-saving medical machines.

Directly or indirectly you are behind many healthy and happy faces. Such a feeling automatically boosts your worth and you stay away from feeling depressed leading to improved mental health.

Therefore, try not to miss any opportunity of showing your kindness by helping someone in a way you want. This simple gesture has remarkable health benefits and there is no better wealth than health.
