Books Empower the Minds - Give Our School Children Right to Free Education

The library building program will ensure free books, including academic, spiritual, and general knowledge books, magazines, newspapers, and audio-visual content of important textbooks, for children studying at Vishwa Jagriti Mission’s Gyandeep Vidyalaya, Faridabad, India. The program will enable underprivileged children to continue their school education without having to purchase a book. It will encourage them to study well. Easily accessible books and resources will work like a big motivation for children, and they will also reduce the financial burden on parents.

Objective of the Library Building Program

One of the key objectives of VJM’s Library Building Program is to encourage and support children to study well without thinking about the financial burden on parents to purchase books. And that will happen if we have enough resources. As a society, we have to come forward and invest in the education of such children who cannot afford it, and when we do that, we witness a big impact on communities and society. A rich library keeps children motivated. They develop knowledge and spend more time on the school premises.

Key Objectives

  • Make important text books available in the school
  • Allow students to be creative and inquisitive
  • Boost the knowledge of students
  • Improve socialisation among children
  • Motivate students to spend more time on school premises
  • Keep the children happy
  • Reduce the financial burden on parents
  • Encourage parents to send their children to school to study well and learn better

VJM is working to improve the efficiency and transparency of its library building program. VJM is ensuring that a nice library building with free books is available for those who need it most, working with volunteers and a large family of donors.

The school library is crucial for education, literacy, and information provision, as well as for the social, economic, spiritual, and cultural development of a nation. Hence, the school library must have sufficient and sustained funding for trained staff, technologies, materials, and facilities.

Furthermore, the role of libraries has evolved. Today, they are not just about books but are envisioned as spaces for the better education and overall development of students. They are an integral part of schooling.

These spaces also play a transformative role in the lives of students from marginalised families by providing access to books, reading materials, and a safe space for reading peacefully.

As a society, it is time for us to acknowledge the importance of libraries in schools and the role they can play in transforming the lives of students.

Project School Library Building is a participatory program where you can sponsor a part of the library building, books, and materials.

For as little as INR 5000–15,000, you can help a student in our school complete his or her education without facing any difficulty in studying.

As a sponsor, you will receive photographs and profiles of children benefiting from your support, followed by periodic progress reports.

Your small contribution has the power to bring about a better academic situation for poor and marginalised children at VJM institutions.

At VJM, we’re committed to doing everything we can to protect India’s deprived children’s Right to Education. We engage with parents, volunteers, teachers, and communities to meet the essential needs of children.

The majority of the children adopted and supported by VJM have been saved from poverty, rag picking, child labour, and domestic violence. We wish to assist them in becoming self-sufficient and responsible citizens. With the help of donations, supporters, and volunteers, we support them morally, socially, and financially.

Join hands to provide better facilities for children.

Vishwa Jagriti Mission is registered under Section 80(G) (5) of the Income Tax Act and whosoever donates to VJM is eligible to get a 50% tax deduction on the amount paid by them if the donated amount does not exceed 10% of their Gross Total Income.

  • After donation, receive a certificate under Section 80g along with your receipt
  • While filing income tax returns, claim amount donated as a deduction under Section 80G
  • NRI donors (Indian citizens; holding an Indian passport) are eligible to tax exemption under section 80 G of the IT Act

VJM has launched a joint campaign to build a library for students belonging to marginalised families. This library will allow thousands of underserved children to be exposed to a vast spectrum of knowledge.

We call on individuals, groups, and corporate companies to join us in our mission. We have to build a rich library with the following types of books:

School text books, preparatory books for engineering, MBA, medicine, IT and other books for competitive entrance exams, reference books, spiritual books, picture books, and story books for children, fiction and non-fiction novels by Indian and foreign authors, painting books, and educational magazines in English and Hindi

Contribute to that and experience the joy of educating young India.

Your contribution will help provide students from low-income families with access to knowledge that will empower their minds. It will provide students with access to quality educational material and give them a chance to contribute towards building a better nation.

As a society, we need to understand that without enough motivation, we cannot bring children from poor families to school. For that, we need the small contributions of kind hearts like yours, your families, relatives, friends, and well-wishers donating for the cause.

A small investment in a needy children’s library is the least we can do to build a better society around ourselves.

VJM is a prominent spiritual and social service organisation and one of India’s most trustworthy NGOs, founded in 1991 by HH Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj. It has worked tirelessly for over three decades to improve the lives of impoverished children and support them in enjoying their childhood. With the aid of donors and volunteers from India and overseas, the organisation is striving to address challenges such as a lack of education, healthcare, nutrition, and safety.

In India, VJM has established Ashrams, Primary and Secondary Schools, and Vocational Training Centers. These institutes provide free education to children in need.

With your support, we can continue our charitable programs more easily and even expand them to different parts of India.

The Challenge Of High Education Cost Faced By Marginalised Children In India

Lack of academic resources can lead to lower mental ability in the short term, and students may lose interest in their studies in the long run. A consistent increase in the cost of school textbooks adds to parents financial woes.

  • The 17th Annual Status of Education Report, 2022, a nationwide survey that provides a snapshot of children’s schooling and learning in rural India, indicates that functional libraries in schools are still a distant reality for most states in India.
  • Adding to the financial burden of parents, school books to be taught as a part of the new education policy from classes 1st to 8th would get dearer by 48% from the upcoming academic session in the year 2023.
  • According to the 17th Annual Status of Education Report, 2022, there has been an increase in the percentage of schools with libraries across India between 2018 and 2022. But there has also been a dip—from 37.3% to 34.3%—in the percentage of public schools where library books are available.
  • Most states witnessed a decline in the percentage of schools where library books are available.
  • An official survey shows that education spending has gone up sharply in India, putting a huge financial burden on households.
  • The new academic year will place a greater financial burden on parents due to a 20–30% increase in the cost of school textbooks.
